Dancer, choreographer, filmmaker, and writer Yvonne Rainer is one of the most influential artistic figures of the last 50 years. Her work has been foundational across multiple disciplines and movements: dance, cinema, feminism, minimalism, conceptual art, and postmodernism. Rainer's works became increasingly personal and political, and by the early 1970s she had begun to focus on producing experimental feature films. In 2000, Rainer returned to choreography and has continued to produce provocative and surprising new works to the present day. Through October 12.
This exhibition traces the development of Byzantine visual culture from its roots in the ancient pagan world through the opulent and deeply spiritual world of the new Christian Byzantine Empire and its broad influence across diverse regions. Featured are mosaics, icons, frescoes, sculpture, manuscripts, metalwork, jewelry, glass, embroideries and ceramics drawn from Greek collections. Through August 25.
“TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!” raves the New York Post for JERSEY BOYS, the 2006 Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award®-winning Best Musical about Rock and Roll Hall of Famers The Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito and Nick Massi. This is the true story of how four blue-collar kids became one of the greatest successes in pop music history. They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide – all before they were 30! JERSEY BOYS features their hit songs “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Rag Doll,” “Oh What a Night” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” “THE CROWD GOES WILD!” cheers The New York Times. September 30 - October 19.

Expressionism in Germany and France: From Van Gogh to Kandinsky sheds new light on the extraordinary response of artists in Germany and France to key developments in modern art in the early 20th century. The exhibition features Post‑Impressionist, Fauvist, and Cubist paintings by more than 40 artists—including Cézanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Robert Delaunay, and Paul Signac—that the Expressionists, such as Wassily Kandinsky, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Gabrielle Münter, and Franz Marc, were able to see in landmark exhibitions and collections in Germany and on their travels to Paris. Through September 14.
The efforts of MOCA’s Acquisition & Collection, Photography, and Drawings committees, as well as those of many generous individuals and institutions, have enabled the museum to cultivate one of the premier collections of contemporary art in the United States.
Shutters, where nothing stands between you and the sand.
Now, look where you have landed... Here is where you want to be. Relax as if you had nothing to worry about (you don't), sleep as if you finally got home (you just did), and eat as if you are living on the coast (you are).
Shutters on the Beach is a luxury Santa Monica hotel where you can look out your window and see there’s really nothing else to do today. A glass of wine, fresh oysters perhaps, a massage, maybe a nap. It’s called relief. Even if you have to go to work, come back quickly. We’re here for you. Getting a second home wasn’t so hard after all.
“ Laid-back beach house feel, with all the perks of a luxury hotel. ”
